UNIFORMS & INSIGNIA
Jump to:
Cub Scout uniforms serve a dual purpose of demonstrating that a Scout is part of a team and showing individual achievement.

Wearing a uniform is a constant reminder to each Cub Scout of his or her commitment to the ideals and purposes of Cub Scouting. Wearing the uniform to meetings and activities also encourages a neat appearance, and good behavior.
- PARTS OF THE CUB SCOUT UNIFORM -
The official Cub Scout uniform consists of seven* parts:
Top
The most recognizable part of a Scout's uniform is their uniform top. Depending on rank, Scouts will wear one of three uniform tops.
*Loops are only worn by Webelos and Arrow of Light scouts.

Uniform tops (with the exception of the lion t-shirt) will show a Scout's rank, council, den number, earned achievements, and the national council required insignia patches. Some patches are standard on any new uniform, while others need to be earned. Read more on insignia and placement here. Uniform tops should be purchased from a certified retailer.

Once a scout reaches the Webelos rank (4th grade) they will transition to a tan uniform shirt. They will continue to wear the same uniform as they transition to Scouts BSA.
TIP: When purchasing your first Scout uniform, we recommend buying bigger. Your Scout will wear the blue uniform top through 3rd grade. If you buy a larger size in the beginning, your Scout may be able to wear the same top through all the lower ranks.
Hat
Pack 726 does not require Scouts to purchase rank hats. Scouts may choose to wear a Cub Scout, rank or Pack hat with their Class A and Class B uniforms.
Neckerchief
Scouts wear triangular neckerchiefs provided by the Pack that match their current rank. Only official BSA neckerchiefs may be worn with your uniform. Neckerchiefs can be worn above or below the collar.
Neckerchief Slide
Neckerchief slides are used to help keep a Scout's neckerchief in place. Neckerchief slides should be worn whenever a neckerchief is worn. The Pack provides Scouts with a slide with each rank advancement, however, Scouts are permitted (and love) to wear handmade slides.
Belt
All Scouts are required to wear a belt with their uniform. As younger Scouts (Lion, Tiger, Wolf & Bear ranks) complete adventures they will earn adventure loops that are worn on their belt. Once the Scout enters the Webelos rank, the loops are removed.
Scout belts are one size fits all and therefore you will need to cut the belt to the appropriate length for your Scout.
Once a Scout reaches the Webelos rank (4th grade), they can continue to wear the navy blue web belt (without adventure loops) or they can switch to the green web belt with a BSA buckle.
Bottoms
Appropriate bottoms consist of pants, shorts and skirts/skorts in blue, khaki, and khaki green. Jeans are also acceptable. You do not need to buy uniform bottoms from a Scout retailer, nor do they need to be a Scout brand.
Socks
Pack 726 does not require Scouts to purchase official socks. Scouts should always wear appropriate footwear for their scheduled activities.
- PACK 726'S UNIFORM GUIDE BY RANK -
There are two classifications of Scout Uniforms:

Class A: This uniform consists of a Scout's formal uniform shirt, pants, belt, neckerchief and neckerchief slide. Scouts are required to wear their Class A uniform to all Cub Scouting activities, including den and pack meetings, unit outings, and any activities done out in public. At a formal Scouting event, Class A uniforms should be tucked in.

Class B: This is a Scout's unofficial uniform and typically consists of a Pack or Cub Scout shirt. Class B uniforms are worn when at camp or participating in other physical activities, Shirts are not required to be tucked in. Neckerchiefs and slides are not worn with a Class B uniform.

Your Cubmaster or Assistant Cubmaster will let you know which uniform should be worn at events. If you are unsure, wear your Class A uniform.

Right Sleeve
Left Sleeve
Council Patch
Pack Numbers
The American Flag Patch is located on the right sleeve, directly below the shoulder seam and comes pre-sewn on every uniform. The Council Patch is located at the top of the left sleeve, directly below the shoulder seam. The Pack numbers patch is placed below the Council Patch. Note: Pack 726 does not use Den numbers.
World Scout Crest
World Crest Ring
The World Scout Crest is worn on all Scout uniforms (both youth and adult) to symbolize membership in the World Scouting movement. This patch is centered horizontally over the left uniform shirt pocket and is positioned vertically between the left shoulder seam and the top of the pocket. The World Crest Ring celebrated the 100+ year history of the Boy Scouts of America. This badge is worn around the World Crest Scout badge.
RANK BADGES

Cub Scout activities are centered around earning rank badges that are specific to each den/school grade. After completing the required activities, Scouts will earn a rank badge which are to be displayed on the front of their uniforms.

Placement of the rank badges:

Left Pocket
For Scouts 3rd grade and younger (blue uniform), the badges of rank go on the left pocket and will form a diamond shape once they've all been earned. The Bobcat badge is centered at the top of the pocket directly beneath the flap (top of the diamond). The Lion badge goes underneath the pocket, roughly 1.25 inches from the bottom pocket seam. The Tiger badge goes directly underneath the Bobcat badge (bottom of diamond) with the badges touching and will be slightly off the edge of the pocket. The Wolf badge (left part of the diamond) will be under and left of the Bobcat badge and will touch both the Bobcat and Tiger badges. The Bear badge (right part of the diamond) will be under and right of the Bobcat badge and will touch both the Bobcat and Tiger badges. For Scouts in 4th & 5th grade (tan uniform), the Webelos badge is centered on the left pocket. The Arrow of Light badge is placed under the left pocket.
A Scout does not need to have earned the previous rank in order to earn the rank for their current age/grade. If a child is new to Scouts and has not earned a previous rank, they will leave that spot on their uniform blank.
TEMPORARY PATCH

Occasionally, a Scout may earn a temporary patch to be displayed on their uniform. Any Scout that attends Scout Camp over the summer will earn a camp patch. A temporary patch can be worn as long as the Scout desires, but only one temporary patch may be worn at a time.

Right Pocket
Temporary patches are placed on the right pocket. Patches that contain a button loop are hung from the right pocket button behind the pocket flap.
ADVENTURE LOOPS AND PINS

As Scouts work towards their badge of rank, they will complete both required 'core' adventures and elective adventures. Adventure details can be found in the handbook for each rank.
Once an adventure is completed, Scouts earn (depending on their rank) either an adventure loop or pin.
Lion, Tiger, Wolf, and Bear ranks earn metal adventure loops that will slide onto the Scout's belt. Webelos and Arrow of Light ranks earn metal adventure pins that are worn on the Webelos Colors (or a Webelos hat).
REQUIREMENTS FOR WEBELOS AND ARROW OF LIGHT UNIFORMS

Once a Scout reaches the Webelos rank (4th grade), there will be a few changes and additions to their uniform.

As noted above, Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts wear a tan uniform shirt. They will continue to wear this shirt in Scouting BSA.

In addition to the new uniform shirt, Scouts can choose to switch to the green web belt (with the BSA buckle) or they can continue to wear the navy blue web belt without the adventure loops.

Moving forward, completed adventures will earn Scouts a metal adventure pin that can be displayed on the Webelos Colors. Webelos Colors include a yellow, red and green ribbon which represent the three programs in BSA: Cub Scouts (yellow), Scouting BSA (red), and Venturing (green).
Webelos and Arrow of Light uniforms also include navy blue shoulder loops.
Right Sleeve
Webelos Colors are worn on the right sleeve immediately below and touching the U.S. flag.
Shoulder loops are worn on the epaulets (ornamental shoulder piece) of both shoulders on the tan uniform shirt.
SEGMENTS

Scouts who participate in certain Den and Pack activities can earn special patches called segments. Segments are a way to recognize activities done outside of the rank adventures. Segments are run through our local Council (Cascade Pacific Council) and are not a BSA program.
View a full list of the CPC segments here.
If they choose, Scouts can wear their segments (with or without a central patch) on their right pocket (where participation patches are displayed) or on the right sleeve above the cuff and underneath the American flag. If worn on the pocket, segments should not exceed the dimensions of the pocket. Segments should be connected at each end and together form a circle.
